Healthier versions of my favourite comfort foods 🍩

Comfort foods don't always have to be unhealthy, adding a few changes can make a huge health difference! Here are some of the things I change about my favourite comfort foods that give me the same pleasure every time

 

1- Fries 

Most fries are deep fried in oils that are bad quality and not good for your health, so I highly recommend investing in an air fryer to cook your food, especially fries. It makes them 10x healthier and still gives you that crisp. Even if you don't have one, oven baking your fries is a great alternative and equally as healthy as the air fryer. With the right recipe and seasoning, you would think your eating fries straight from a fast food place!

 

2- Ice cream

We all know it and we all love it, the creamy and delicious ice cream. Don't get my wrong, I love indulging in some store bought ice cream sometimes, but when I'm feeling like a healthier and tangier version, sorbet it the way to go. It super easy to make at home or you can buy it from the store. It provides that tang and fruitiness you don't get from ice cream, and you can eat it guilt free!

 

3- Store bought Mac-n-cheese

Mac n cheese is one of the most popular foods in the world. The instant packets from the store are delicious and convenient , but are filled with colours and bad ingredients. I highly recommend grabbing some macaroni shells from the shops and your favourite cheese to make a much healthier and possibly more tasty alternative at home. It super simple and you can adjust the recipe to however you like!

 

Yes, I have to admit I do eat my favourite comfort foods even if they are unhealthy sometimes, and that's totally fine! Life is about balance, and sometimes that treat is exactly what you need! But when you want comfort and flavour without guilt, these alternatives are great (they may not work for everyone, but are my personal favourites :).
